Why to choose appropriate learning delivery modality in school

Choosing the appropriate LDMs in a school is not that easy as taking a multiple-choice exam.  It needs a thorough understanding of the school’s culture including its capacity to cater such modalities, as well as the capacity of every parent or guardian and the capacity of every learner since he or she is the direct user of the chosen modality.  One should look into the level of readiness of the school in terms of governance, content, parent support, platform and support, teachers, learners, learning resource materials, trainings, classroom management, curriculum and others.  Assessment to these elements should be done through the use of various mechanisms such as surveys to verify and validate the appropriate modality of the school to offer.  The use of LDM Decision Tree helps and guides the school to decide properly on this matter.

Up to this time, some of our parents have no final decision yet or they keep on changing their decision on what modality they will choose for their children giving our teachers a hard time to program their classes.  Thus, this module 3 gives us the idea on what appropriate modality to all our learners and guides us in making our decisions to further come up with the right decision.  Careful planning should be our next step to move forward and prepare ourselves for this “new normal” LDMs making education accessible to all types of learners in the midst of this health crisis that the whole country is facing without compromising the health and safety of our teachers, learners, parents and stakeholders.

Implementing a particular LDM in a class and in a school in general needs careful planning because if not planned properly, all efforts will be put into vain.  As the adage goes, he who fails to plan plans to fail.

There are important things to consider in the implementation of LDMs such as organizing learners based on their chosen modality as provided in the LESF survey, mechanisms in monitoring their learning because their learning is very crucial in operationalizing their chosen modality, the availability of learning resources that would supplement the teaching and learning process, mechanism in the distribution and collection of learning resources, improving teacher’s competence in managing learning in the LDMs through continuing professional development by creating effective school-based interventions, managing risks in the implementation of LDMs because along the way, risks will be popping out unnoticed and how the school and the teachers communicate the expected teaching and learning outcomes to education stakeholders in order to draw support from them.

As the school principal of Butuan Central Elementary School, it is my role to lay down all the plans including interventions and revolution of solutions in addressing the unexpected risks in the implementation of various LDMs.  This is to ensure that we can deliver and provide basic services to our clientele-services which are learner-centered.  Our plans as embedded in our BE-LCP should also address the learner’s unique learning needs, their backgrounds, the school’s culture and practices as well as the community they are in.  With this, support from learners, parents, teachers and the community is drawn, collaboration is gained and desired learning outcomes is achieved. ###
